About Markdown Viewer
Our mission
Markdown Viewer exists to make reading and writing Markdown effortless. Every README, note, and document written in Markdown should be one click away from being beautifully rendered — without installing an app, creating an account, or handing your files to a server. We built the tool we wanted to use ourselves: a fast, free online markdown viewer with a live preview that treats privacy as a feature, not an add-on.
What we believe
- Your documents are yours. Everything runs client-side in your browser. Your files never touch our servers — read ourprivacy policy for the details.
- Tools should be free and open. No paywalls, no premium tiers, no watermarks and no ads. The full editor, compare mode, math, diagrams and every export format are free for everyone.
- Software should work everywhere. Because Markdown Viewer is a web app, it behaves identically on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, Android and iOS. If your device has a browser, you have a markdown viewer.
- Speed matters. The page loads once and then works offline. Rendering happens locally, so viewing a large document is instant.
What it does
Markdown Viewer is a complete workspace for Markdown: a syntax-highlighted editor, a real-time live preview, document comparison with line diffs, LaTeX math, Mermaid diagrams, an outline panel, and one-click export to PDF, Word, HTML and PNG. It supports GitHub-Flavored Markdown out of the box, so tables, task lists and footnotes render exactly the way you expect. New to the syntax? TheMarkdown guide has live examples for everything.
How it is built
The app is built with modern web standards: CodeMirror for editing, marked for rendering, KaTeX for math, Mermaid for diagrams, and highlight.js for code — all running locally in your browser. There is no backend, no database and no telemetry. Your documents are auto-saved in your own browser's local storage, and you can export a backup at any time.
